When I embarked on the start my Fitness journey all those years ago, diet and nutrition didn’t really mean anything to me! To me diets were slim fast or weight watchers, I had never really considered that there was more to food than just the calories in them – or at least I pushed it to the back of my mind!
Foods fell into two distinct categories, Good and Bad.
Pizza bad.
Vegetables good.
Chocolate bad.
Chips REALLY bad.
Etc etc etc
I just didn’t have the understanding of nutrition to understand what a balanced diet was and how I could pair nutrition with exercise to fully achieve a goal. That concept just didn’t compute.
Tom from TPM health and fitness (who gets mentioned a lot on this blog) really helped me to get a better understanding of powering my workouts with a balanced and prioritised diet. It’s not an easy job when meal times are all over the the place and your working hours can range from a 5 hour day to a 13 hour day – early mornings and late nights to be considered, but by taking control, learning and implementing new strategies (and let’s face it, seeing results) I was able to make informed choices tailored to the lifestyle that I choose to lead.
I do not claim to be an expert on protein, but my understanding is this. If you want to build muscle mass, this potential is greatly increased by increasing the amount of protein in your diet. Studies have taken place and this has been shown to be a successful strategy in building mass – it’s science innit!
After a couple of months, I was proteined out! Bored and uninspired and during the pandemic it was tricky to even be able to get hold of any sort of variety to put on your plates! Tom had been speaking to me about protein powder, but if I am honest I had been quite resistant to the idea. I had equated these powders with weight gain – I would get fat again, I thought – it seemed obvious to me that whilst this may work for others, it wouldn’t work for me!
After sharing my thoughts with Tom, he reassured me that this wasn’t going to be the case and that I was in a better routine and regularly exercising, it was about fuelling myself in an efficient way to the goals that I had set for myself… and the rest they say is history!
I used MyProtein because they were relatively cheap and had a wide variety of flavours available. I didn’t want to get bored and they also did a decent range of vegan protein powders (to be clear I’m
NOT vegan, but I avoid too much dairy). I’m not gonna lie, it’s a bit daunting because there are a huge number of types of powder, that I guess are tailored to achieve certain things more than others, but I KISS and opted for “protein powder” and stuck with that!
As I have browsed the site I also found items that would shape some dietary choice of the future! So to round up this post, let me talk you through some of the products I have bought from My Protein.

Impact Whey Protein (in Salted Caramel – delicious btw)
This powder is formulated for those with active lifestyles. It contains 21g of protein per serving and is 112 calories. Easy to mix, 1 scoop of powder and mix with water in a shaker. Bish bash bosh. It comes in a whole host of flavours
From none at all to brown sugar milk tea, from cereal milk to cinnamon danish.

Breakfast Smoothie
153 calories and 23g protein
For breakfast on the go, these smoothies set you up for the day ahead. Simply mix as with the protein powders, but note that this is a thicker consistency and is actually quite filling! The blueberry and Apple one is lovely and l would definitely explore the o the flavour options (strawberry and banana & Mango and Passion fruit)

My Vegan Whole Fuel Blend
400 calories 25g protein
Serving suggestion as a meal replacement, this has “the perfect ratio of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals that your body needs” and is a quick and easy choice when you are short of time! I keep mine in the office in case I don’t make it out for lunch and need something to keep me going and still help towards my protein goals.

My Protein Clear Vegan Protein
52 calories 10g protein
So much more than just a protein drink, the clear isolate is in a ready to mix formula and helps keep you hydrated throughout the day. And this pineapple and grapefruit flavour is awesome too! A great light version when a shake is too heavy!

My Protein Peanut Butter Powder
48 calories and 5.7g protein
For those who love peanut butter but want a version with 70% less fat… your prayers have been answered! I sometimes top up my shake with a 12g serving to make a chocolate peanut butter shake, but also great in cakes and other foods too!

My Protein Flav Drops
Zero calories
These sweet flavourings can be used in anything really, to add a touch of sweetness without the calories! Highly recommended for your morning porridge and I have replaced sugar in my tea with a single drop from the flav drop pippette! This tiny little bottle just goes to show that not every dietary change has to be a huge one!
This is just a small sample of what is available on the MY PROTEIN website – and in some of the protein powders there are sample sizes too so that you can test the flavours before committing to a hug bag!!!
My recommendation – Shop the sales and discount codes! You can really get some bargains and make sure the nutrition bit is taken care of.
