This month when I checked in with Tom the trainer (TPM Health and Fitness for those who are asking) I decided it was time to return to tracking…
It’s not necessarily that things haven’t been going well, more that it’s sometimes good for me to have formal accountability, especially when I have busy periods upcoming, when I could easily be knocked off task – which could then lead to me being quite hard for on myself.

I quite enjoy tracking, the goals are there in black and white and knowing how many calories are left or what macros are still to be met that day, helps me make the right choices – especially at the end of the day when it’s very easy to make the wrong decisions when I have been good all day!
Fitness journeys are exactly that, a journey. What’s good for now may not be the best thing for me in a couple of month’s time. I have learned to be more attuned to my body and listen to what it is that I need from my fitness progression. Tom is an amazing trainer because he is flexible to my needs, but also asks the questions to ensure that I am making the right choices for the goals that I have set myself and is realistic if my choices are going to make that goal more difficult in the short term.

Weight tracking for me can be intense. I don’t enjoy it. It can become too much of a focus for me and I can stop having the perspective to appreciate the progress that I have made if it is not reflected in the number on the scales. Progress pics have their use too – a documentation of development when the reflection in the mirror isn’t giving me real time updates! Going back to the beginning and looking at those pics has made a huge shift in me mentally.
Since tracking began 2.5 weeks ago, I am down 1.2kg and that is a good steady pace for me – I knew it wouldn’t be making drastic changes to the scales, but I have enjoyed the consistency and effectiveness of my workouts thus far. I have been able to make effective choices and maintain energy levels around my ever-changing work schedule – which is no mean feat tbh!

My immediate goals are to incorporate more cardio into my routine and push the weight up across all exercise sessions. I want to continue to challenge myself and aim to leave the gym feeling like I have pushed myself to get the most out of every visit. For me generic goals are sometimes the one. Specific goals are good too, but for now I just need to maintain motivation and consistency.

So that is this month’s fitness update. It’s a case of trusting the process and continuing to move forwards with a positive mental attitude. I have not been well for a couple of days and so my focus has been elsewhere. But I know that this blip isn’t going to hold me back. If anything it will just make me stronger.
