The 29th of February only comes around every four years. It’s unique in its configuration and yet it has a profound effect on time. I get to thinking about the date a fair amount because my son was very almost born on this date! I think of the 29th of February as a celebration of uniqueness and so today’s post HAD to explore this theme!

I have always marched to the beat of my own drum. In my younger years this was a much quieter drumbeat but that pulse was still there. When I got to the age where I began to pick my own clothes, when I earned my own money to be able to get a say, I was able to explore my unique qualities through my fashion. It was the 90’s so it was quite out there! I would stay on trend but always with a twist – there was a popular Umbro Backpack at school which was available in Black and Navy colour stories, but I managed to find on sale the same design but in Royal Blue with lime green piping – I towed the line but put my own twist on it!

I was like a chameleon in that sense, because I drew influences from everywhere there was something that tied me in to different groups. Preppy tees with skater wide legged jeans, sports tops with ripped trousers, nerd-chic with a rock hair style. But in truth all of these eclectic styles represented me in some way – I just didn’t want to be boxed in to one way of thinking.

One of the first items I purchased with my first pay cheques were some tigger boxer shorts. It’s bizarre to me now, that I chose these over-sized undies in comparison to what I tend to wear these days, but I Loved them so much. It was my first independent stamp on the world and I never looked back.

Underwear tends to be designed with certain markets in mind, but I try not to be swayed by marketing and instead be led toy choices by the designs. It’s not necessarily about what your underwear says ABOUT you, but more what they say TO you.

I am a unique person and therefore like to be experimental with my underwear. Designs can cut the body up differently so even with such a small item of clothing the look can change drastically – I celebrate the unique and my underwear should also say that!

So this 29th February, maybe you should show your uniqueness with some fun undies that you might not have tried before – who knows you might just like them!
