For my 40th Birthday I was gifted “The Grooming Experience” at Truefitt and Hill, from a very kind relative. So a few months later I book in the experience to see what it is all about – and live my best life at the same time! 

When you approach Truefitt & Hill you pass landmarks like the Ritz and you know you are in high-end company! As the door opens you are met with a smile, and are hit instantly by the aroma of shaving soaps, colognes and wood. 

The aromas stay with you as you relax in a leather chesterfield and relax. There was a little hustle and bustle which added to the overall experience and I soaked up the “tradition” that surrounded everything in this impressive space. Large Portraits adorn the walls and the wooden clad walls add a touch of prestige and history to the proceedings.

I was met by my barber Cristian, who could not have been more welcoming to me, as a first-timer and made me feel in safe hands throughout my time.

The consultation was exactly that, as I explained the various issues with my hair and style, Cristian took the time to move the hair around and explore which cut would best work for my needs. Balding spots, thinning hair and receding hairline were all considerations as he talked me through his plan of action. 

Conversation flowed very easily and was never stilted, but there were certainly periods of quiet too which suited me nicely. Too much chatter can often negatively impact the experience itself and it was great for this to be handled so expertly.

Cristian talked me through all stages of the shave process, and offered some incredible advice on my upcoming beard goals. He taught me how to shape my moustache, which has always been an issue for me and also took the time to explore skincare and beard maintenance as well. All things that I have continued to explore since this day.

The final part of the experience was a manicure that was delivered by a glorious lady who was experienced, detailed and full of personality. She trimmed, polished and moisturised each nail and made a couple of easy suggestions about caring for the nails and the skin surrounding them.  My nails have never looked better! 

As I left I tipped the team and decorated red to purchase a shave cream. A traditional sandalwood fragrance which seemed to encompass the whole experience nicely. 

Note: this stuff is Glorious and I would highly recommend! 

I can sometimes have a tendency to feel out of place in up-market settings. The imposter syndrome can creep in and it can mar the overall experience. But at every stage I was treated with care and respect, and the process was exactly the same as the Duke sat beside me! 

I couldn’t recommend the grooming experience enough, it was self-care and a real treat to enjoy that was all about me. It was exactly what I needed.

Our Grooming Experience is a combination of our three signature treatments that will ensure that a gentleman leaves our barbershop perfectly groomed and refreshed. The package comprises Haircut & Shampoo, Traditional Hot Towel Wet Shave and Manicure. The treatment begins with a consultation and analysis of the client’s haircare and shaving routine to ensure excellent results. 

Treatment time approx. 60min.

The grooming experience was £165.
