ThatIsBeyond… The Perfect Underwear.

The range of underwear on the market is phenomenal!

Now don’t get me wrong, of course the answer to the perfect underwear is going to be different from person to person! That goes without saying. And you have to factor in what you want from your underwear too – “everyday” wear has very different requirements to performance wear, for example. But I thought I’d try to explore what makes the perfect underwear (for me), and get your input too!

The FABRIC

It stands to reason, that anything worn so close to the skin, needs to move with the wearer! I am always looking for some stretch as well as support. That way everything is held nicely in place but also has some freedom of movement. You want your underwear to work with you, rather than against you, this will not only avoid chafing but also be dynamic to your needs.

Often a blend is the best way to go as you tend to get more from the fabric. As a guy with larger thighs breathability is also high on my list too! A modal blend tends to work best for me.

The CUT

The only boxer- shorts I own are created by David Gandy himself!

I do not discriminate when it comes to underwear! I have tested and wear a variety of cuts on the daily, and I like to ensure that my daily tasks are factored into my choice. As a general rule I avoid cotton “Boxer Shorts” unless I occasionally wear them for bed. They offer zero support and there is a mass of fabric which can become uncomfortable. As a cover up they are your best bet, but when you get to my age you just don’t care about that stuff! In my opinion there are just far better options that will make you feel good from the underwear up!

The BOXER-BRIEF

Boxer-briefs by Kula Underwear

A longer- legged, form fitting version of the boxer short. They are tighter to the body and tend to be stretchier. In general I would say that I classify a boxer-brief as mid-thigh length to just above the knee. Often a favourite of athletic types, they offer some coverage but are also supportive (for ease I generally include compression shorts in amongst this category as well).

The TRUNK

Calvin Klein logo trunk

Essentially a short cut boxer brief l personally classify a trunk as a square (ish) cut and to generally be form fitting. I know men who feel a Brief shows off too much up front and so they feel a trunk gives them that little bit of extra coverage whilst also remaining a smaller sexy cut. Most ranges have a trunk in their collection, but do beware that brand dependant, the term trunk/ boxer brief are often used interchangeably! So just makes sure what you’re buying is the cut that you want.

The BRIEF

Teamm8 tanga briefs and TOF briefs in Orange both available from www.hautunderwear.com

From classic Y- fronts to a microbrief, there is a whole spectrum of briefs that offer coverage over the peach but cut above the bulkier thigh muscles. The Brief has had a resurgence after a reputation of being a bit boring! But not any more my friends! The Brief is a cut that works for so many body shapes and provides comfort and support across the board. With super stretch, pouches and different thicknesses of the side panels, there really is a brief for everyone! They are form-fitting and a smaller cut, they also work comfortably undie any outerwear and can help enhance the goods too!

The JOCK

Originally developed as an athletes support (unusually with an insertable cup for protection) they had a fuller pouch that was joined between the legs by two straps that sit around the butt cheeks and join to a thick waist strap. Nowadays though the fashion jock is a “thing” and are designed with a much more form fitting aesthetic and are less about functionality and more about being sexy! The less amount of fabric makes them breathable and comfortable to wear.

The THONG

Y Back thong from Sukrew

Essentially a pouch and thin piece of fabric that sits between the cheeks. This means that there are no visible lines in trousers and the peachy aesthetic can reign supreme! Even with such a tiny pair of underwear there are still many variations of design, including a Y-back, G string and beyond! Some people perceive thongs to be uncomfortable and others swear by their comfort! The only way you will find out – is to try one for yourself!

The FEEL!

I always say that you should dress from the underwear up – if you wear underwear that makes you feel fantastic about yourself, then that same confidence will exude from you. Adversely, I am sure we have all been in a situation where our underwear has become uncomfortable and it genuinely can be painful too 😳

Choosing the right underwear for you is not about what other people think, but moreso about how you feel. Feeling sexy is a state of mind, but it can certainly be helped with donning some underwear that helps you to live your best life!

The Perfect Underwear – is a personal

Choice, but for me there is a place for them all!

What makes the perfect underwear for you? Leave me some details in the comments!

  1. Another awesome post! My “perfect” underwear is a silky fabric (modal or bamboo), a form-fitting cut (could be anything from jockstrap to boxer briefs, but I want to see those curves!), a thinner waistband (thick waistbands are uncomfortable on my skin), a fantastic pouch, and awesome patterns and colors. I gravitate towards darker colors, especially blues, but I love wearing bright and bold patterns sometimes too. Having a well-diversified underwear collection is best so you can choose your “perfect” underwear for how you are feeling that day. 🙂
