I was recently described as a jock. I think the truth of the matter is that I am probably as far away from a stereotypical jock as you can get! Whilst I have played team sports in the past, I was always the unconventional sports person. So that word doesn’t seem to describe me at all!

Over the years my underwear choices have been based on perception, conforming to societal norms and not wanting to stick out. Having said that, time has been kind to me and as I have got older, I tend not to care too much at all about what people think! It’s a good place to be.
When tackling a gym session, it’s find comfort to be the top priority when choosing underwear. With my thighs being well developed, I especially have to give this some thought when selecting the right pair on leg day! Squats and dynamic lower exercises need the freedom of movement without discomfort.
So why a jock? I hear you ask! Well these are my reasons for selecting a jock for these situations:

Narrow pouch cut
The narrow cut of the front pouch means that the fabric sits comfortably in the natural contours and curvatures in the creases of the legs. This means there is minimal opportunity for chafing and there is very little contact with the fabric.

Support
A jock strap is also known as an athletic supporter. Put very simply, a jock is designed to keep your penis in place and supported by the stretch in the fabric. Of course there are a lot of jocks on the market that appeal on an aesthetic level and so the purpose is sometimes overlooked, but my faves have the usability of the original design, with great aesthetics as well. Whether yours athletic choice is a team sport, a gym session or cardio focussed, you are going to need to be supported throughout.

Straps
The purpose of the straps is to help support the goods, but beyond that there is another practical reason for them… they allow air access to your butt, which means that the sweat evaporates instead of soaking into a close fitting fabric which then causes discomfort when it rubs. The jockstrap, your practical friend.
Now of course there are a whole host of other reasons that people but a jockstrap, and aesthetics and fetish play their part for some people. But from a practical point of view, a jock is a great choice for those who lead an active lifestyle and want to be as dynamic as possible whilst retaining A1 comfort.
So whilst I don’t identify as a jock in a jock, I do believe that for me a jock is sometimes the perfect choice for my needs. And if they look good as well, then I am probably feeing at my best too!
So live your best life. Wear whatever works for you, but maybe also try a jock and see if it works for you too!

This is an excellent post about the benefits of wearing jockstraps. I also identified with your first paragraph about wearing underwear that “conformed to societal norms.” Mainly boxers in high school and college and boxer briefs thereafter.
But a few years ago, I started experimenting with underwear other than boxer briefs and never looked back. It’s so nice to feel comfortable and sexy and not worry about what everyone else thinks!
Also, you didn’t discuss fabric in this post, but I believe the right fabric is also super important. I personally favor modal and bamboo. 🙂
